A new Bruce Springsteen album--the first that he’s recorded with the E Street Band since 1984’s “Born in the U.S.A."--is set for release on July 30, according to Springsteen’s publicist.
Titled “The Rising,” the album was produced by Brendan O’Brien (Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots) and features 14 new songs, as well as the E Street Band’s version of “My City of Ruins.” Springsteen performed “My City of Ruins” during “America: A Tribute to Heroes,” a Sept. 21, 2001 telethon that raised money for victims of the Sept. 11 attacks.
According to an Associated Press report, the album was recorded in just eight weeks, and Springsteen wrote all but two of the album’s tracks after Sept. 11.
“The songs I wrote sort of occur in that context,” Springsteen told the AP. “It’s more of an emotional feeling that I felt--and that I felt was in the air at that time. “[Some songs] deal more directly with it than others, but the stories all happen in a post-Sept. 11 context.”
Springsteen added that while the sound of the new album will be familiar to fans, it is a change from his earlier collaborations with the E Street Band--a group he said has become more confident over the years. “If you have all of our other records, you don’t have this one,” Springsteen said. “We picked up the level of intensity. I can’t wait for people to hear this record.”
The track listing for “The Rising,” according to Springsteen’s publicist:
