There were 27 arrests--mostly “drug-related, including possession of marijuana, cocaine and other hallucinogenic drugs, such as Ecstasy and LSD"--during first night of Phish‘s three-night stand at Hampton (Va.) Coliseum on Friday (1/3), David Chernicky of the Hampton Roads Daily Press reports.

Pollstar has published its 2002 concert industry analysis. Bottom line: ticket sale grosses hit record levels for the fourth straight year. The number of tickts sold was up from 2001, despite a 6 percent increase in ticket prices. Paul McCartney was the year’s biggest money-maker.

The Manhattan offices of record label Murder Inc. were raided by the feds on Friday (1/3), Chuck Philips reports in the Los Angeles Times. A task force reportedly is investigating whether label head Irv Gotti has connection to a “drug gang.” Ashanti and Ja Rule are among the acts who record for the label.

A 16-song tribute album to the late Waylon Jennings will hit stores in April. Contributors are: Brooks & Dunn ("I Ain’t Living Long Like This"); Kenny Chesney with Kid Rock ("Luckenbach, Texas"); Sara Evans with Deana Carter ("Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys"); Andy Griggs ("This Time"); Ben Harper ("Waymore’s Blues"); Metallica lead singer James Hetfield ("Don’t You Think This Outlaw Bit’s Done Got Out of Hand"); Alison Krauss ("You Asked Me To"); John Mellencamp ("Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way"); Pinmonkey ("Are You Ready for the Country"); Travis Tritt ("Lonesome, On’ry and Mean"); Phil Vassar with Rob Thomas ("A Good Hearted Woman"); Hank Williams Jr. ("Only Daddy That’ll Walk the Line"); and Dwight Yoakam ("Stop the World (And Let Me Off)").
Stargunn--a band featuring Shooter Jennings--the son of Waylon and his widow Jessi Colter--contributes “I’ve Always Been Crazy.” The album will also feature one of Waylon’s last recordings, a song called “The Dream.”
