Faith Hill’s “Cry” and LL Cool J’s “X” outsold all others during their first week in stores, and will finally dethrone the King from the top of the chart.
“Cry," Hill’s first new release since 1999’s “Breathe,” moved about 472,000 copies during its inaugural week, according to industry sources, which is more than enough to secure the top spot on the forthcoming Billboard 200 album chart. “X” comes in a distant second with first-week sales of about 154,000 copies.
The chart-topping newcomers push “Elvis: 30 #1 Hits” down to No. 3, ending Presley’s posthumous three-week reign at No. 1, while the Rolling Stones’ two-disc best-of set, “Forty Licks,” gives up one spot to land No. 4.
Avril Lavigne’s “Let Go” continues to stretch its legs in the Top 10, down a single notch to No. 5. The Dixie Chicks’ “Home,” Eminem’s “The Eminem Show” and Nelly’s “Nellyville” follow at Nos. 6, 7 and 8, respectively.
Two more debuts follow, with Gerald Levert’s “The G Spot” in at No. 9 and Dave Hollister’s “Things in the Game Done Changed” at No. 10.
Getting sprung from the Top 10 in a hurry is Bon Jovi’s “Bouce,” which bounces its way down to No. 13 after debuting at No. 2 last week. The album tallied up sales of about 61,000 copies during its second week out, about 100,000 copies less than its first-week total.
This week’s other debuts include “The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac” at No. 12, Taproot’s “Welcome “at No. 17, Tracy Chapman’s “Let It Rain” at No. 25, Bond’s “Shine” at No. 61 and Da Headbussaz’s “Dat’s How It Happened to ‘M” at No. 98.
