Shakira lays out plans for 50-city world tour

Colombia-born pop-star Shakira, who broke through to North American audiences in 2001 with her No. 1 hit “Whenever Wherever,” embarks on her first world tour in November.

Colombia-born pop-star Shakira, who broke through to North American audiences in 2001 with her No. 1 hit “Whenever Wherever,” embarks on her first world tour in November.

According to promoter Clear Channel Entertainment, the singer-songwriter will visit 30 North American cities through February, with a European stopover in December. The tour--dubbed Tour of the Mongoose--is expected to visit about 50 cities worldwide through 2003.



“Laundry Service,” Shakira’s Grammy-winning English-language debut, has sold more than 9 million copies worldwide, according to her label.



Shakira signed her first recording contract with Sony Music Columbia when she was 13 years old. Before the release of “Laundry Service, she was a well-established star throughout Latin America, Brazil and Spain.
