Bob Dylan maps out fall tour plans

Bob Dylan’s seemingly never-ending tour itinerary has been fortified with a new series of fall West Coast dates, which will come on the heels of his current summer tour.

Bob Dylan’s seemingly never-ending tour itinerary has been fortified with a new series of fall West Coast dates, which will come on the heels of his current summer tour.

Dylan doesn’t have any concert dates scheduled from late August through September, but will return to the road in early October to open the fall leg.

Dylan toured the Southern U.S. earlier this year before launching a European trek that wrapped up in mid-May. His North American summer jaunt, now in progress, followed.

Dylan’s current backing band features Larry Campbell (guitar, violin, banjo, mandolin), Charlie Sexton (guitar), Tony Garnier (bass) and George Recile (drums).

In February, Dylan’s album “Love and Theft"--which was released on Sept. 11, 2001-- won the Grammy award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. The album, which is Dylan’s 43rd, was also nominated for Album of the Year, and Dylan was nominated in the Best Male Rock Vocal Performance for the album’s track “Honest With Me.”

Oasis postpones two more shows

British pop-rockers Oasis have postponed their remaining tour dates for the week to allow singer-guitarist Noel Gallagher recover from injuries suffered in a recent traffic accident.

British pop-rockers Oasis have postponed their remaining tour dates for the week to allow singer-guitarist Noel Gallagher recover from injuries suffered in a recent traffic accident.

On Wednesday (8/7), the band’s management announced the cancellation of that night’s show in Indianapolis. Shows scheduled to take place on Friday (8/9) at Philadelphia’s Tower Theater and on Saturday (8/10) at Boston’s Fleet Pavilion have since been postponed. The band intends to resume the tour on Sunday (8/11) at New York City’s Roseland Ballroom, and to reschedule the postponed dates.

“A further doctors examination of Noel Gallagher following [Tuesday’s] car accident established that his injuries are more chronic than originally thought,” said a statement issued by the band. “Noel is suffering from the effects of whiplash and shock. The Indiana University School of Medicine doctor prescribed further painkilling drugs, and ordered complete rest for the next three days, in order to lay the basis for as quick and complete a recovery as possible, and to prevent any long term or permanent effects from the accident.”

Oasis members Noel Gallagher, Andy Bell and Jay Darlington were traveling in a taxi that was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle on Tuesday in Indianapolis. The three were taken to a hospital by ambulance, where they were treated for shock, cuts and bruises.

Lead singer Liam Gallagher apparently wasn’t in the taxi with his bandmates.

The accident was the tour’s second setback in less than a week. Liam Gallagher was able to complete just three songs during the tour’s opening show on Aug. 2 Pompano Beach, Fla., before http://www.soundspike.com/story/506>his voice gave out.

Three members of Oasis suffered minor injuries in a Tuesday afternoon (8/6) traffic accident in downtown Indianapolis.

Three members of Oasis suffered minor injuries in a Tuesday afternoon (8/6) traffic accident in downtown Indianapolis.

According to a statement posted on the band’s official website, Oasis members Noel Gallagher, Andy Bell and Jay Darlington were traveling in a taxi that was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle.

The three were taken to a hospital by ambulance, where they were treated for shock, cuts and bruises. “Keyboard player Jay has his hand strapped and has to return to hospital on Wednesday for further treatment,” the statement said. “Noel, who was traveling in the front of the car, has suffered heavy facial bruising and seat belt cuts.”

Because of their injuries, neither member is well enough to perform a scheduled show at the Murat Theater in Indianapolis on Wednesday (8/7), and they “have been ordered by hospital doctors to fully rest for the next 48 hours to let their prescribed medication take full effect,” the statement said.

Lead singer Liam Gallagher apparently wasn’t in the taxi with his bandmates.

The group plans to reschedule the Indianapolis show for another date. No other postponements or cancellations were immediately announced.

The accident was the tour’s second setback in less than a week. Liam Gallagher was able to complete just three songs during the tour’s opening show on Aug. 2 Pompano Beach, Fla., before his voice gave out.

Album Chart: Springsteen’s ‘The Rising’ debuts at No. 1

Bruce Springsteen’s “The Rising” sold about 526,000 copies during its first week in stores, more than enough for a No. 1 debut on the forthcoming Billboard 200 chart, according to industry sources.

Bruce Springsteen’s “The Rising” sold about 526,000 copies during its first week in stores, more than enough for a No. 1 debut on the forthcoming Billboard 200 chart, according to industry sources.

Springsteen had an extremely busy release-week publicity schedule that included television appearances on the “Today” show, “Nightline” and “The Late Show with David Letterman.” He also appeared on the cover of Time and Rolling Stone magazines.

Two of Springsteen’s previous albums--"Greatest Hits” and “Live 1975-1985"--debuted at No. 1, but neither sold even half as many copies in its first week as did “The Rising.”

Charting at No. 2 in its first week out is Linkin Park’s remix album “Reanimation,” which sold about 270,000 copies.

Nelly’s “Nellyville” holds steady at No. 3, the hits compilation “Now That’s What I Call Music! 10” drops two slots to No. 4, and “The Eminem Show” drops one place to No. 5.

Toby Keith’s “Unleashed,” which debuted at No. 1 last week, falls to No. 6, while the Dave Matthews Band’s “Busted Stuff” falls two places to No. 7.

“Let Go” from young singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne drops two rungs to No. 9 while the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “By the Way” dips two slots to round out the Top 10.

Debuting at No. 9 is “All I Have” from R&B singer Amerie. “By the Way” from Red Hot Chili Peppers falls two places to round out the Top 10.

Falling just short of a Top 10 debut is “X” from aging rockers Def Leppard, which lands at No. 11.

Other chart debuts include Filter’s “The Amalgamut” (No. 32), Beth Orton’s “Daybreaker” (No. 40), Knoc-Turn’Al’s “L.A. Confidential Presents Knoc-Turn’Al” (No. 74), Karen Clark-Sheard’s “2nd Chance” (No. 82), Darius Rucker’s “Back to Then” (No. 127), and the dancehall hits compilation “Reggae Gold 2002: (No. 184).

Mariah Carey will release her first album for her new Island Records imprint MonarC Music on Dec. 10, according to the label.

Mariah Carey will release her first album for her new Island Records imprint MonarC Music on Dec. 10, according to the label.

According to Island Records, “the album features Carey writing and co-producing with such A-list producers as Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Jermaine Dupri among others.” Twenty “very personal” songs have already been recorded.

Carey took a nearly $30 million buyout and parted ways with Virgin Records in January after her first album for the label, “Glitter,” sold poorly and a Carey-starring motion picture of the same name flopped.

Carey was hospitalized in 2001, just prior to the release of the album and movie, after suffering what her publicist termed “an emotional and physical breakdown.”

Oasis tour moves on following a rough opener

Oasis’ U.S. tour got off to a shaky start on Friday night (8/2) at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater in South Florida, with the voice of lead singer Liam Gallagher failing him after just three songs.

Oasis’ U.S. tour got off to a shaky start on Friday night (8/2) at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater in South Florida, with the voice of lead singer Liam Gallagher failing him after just three songs.

According to the Palm Beach Post, Gallagher struggled through “Go Let It Out,” a track from the band’s 2000 album “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants.” He reportedly “pointed to his neck while facing his brother Noel on guitar. Then after one last try at singing, Liam threw his tambourine at the amphitheater’s roof and walked off stage.” He didn’t return.

Vocalist and guitarist Noel Gallagher handled vocals for the balance of the two-hour show, first backed by his three other bandmates, then playing a lengthy solo-acoustic set before being rejoined by the group.

According to the official Oasis website, “Liam’s vocal problems are thought to be the result of the long plane flight to Florida and he is expected to be fine for [Sunday’s (8/4)] show in Orlando.”

Liam did, indeed, perform at Orlando’s Hard Rock Live. “Liam was back belting out his lyrics, strutting around the stage, and swearing at the audio manager to turn his mike up..... Pure Liam at his best,” wrote a fan on the bands website message board. “His voice never gave out and if it did you couldn’t tell with the 3000+ in attendance singing along.”

Grateful Dead survivors stage a smooth reunion

A two-day event headlined by the surviving members of the Grateful Dead took place without any serious problems on Saturday and Sunday (8/3-4), raising hopes that the group will take its show on the road.

A two-day event headlined by the surviving members of the Grateful Dead took place without any serious problems on Saturday and Sunday (8/3-4), raising hopes that the group will take its show on the road.

Fears were that the concert at the Alpine Valley Music Theater in East Troy, Wis.--which marked the first time that all surviving members of the Grateful Dead have performed together since the death of singer-guitarist Jerry Garcia--would create traffic jams and draw tens of thousands of ticketless fans.

Security reportedly was somewhat heavy handed at the event, but police reported few major problems. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, police had issued six citations for underage drinking, two for illegal vending and 115 for marijuana possession by Sunday afternoon, and had arrested 15 people for various offenses, including drug charges.

“We had a very successful concert event here today,” Walworth County Sheriff David Graves told the Journal Sentinel after Saturday’s show. “I think we have to credit fans as well as all the planning.”

Walworth County officials, who were concerned that upwards of 200,000 people would flock to the area, originally denied a request by promoter Clear Channel Entertainment to stage the show. County officials reconsidered after promoters presented a detailed security plan.

The plan, reportedly a $200,000 campaign, included advertising encouraging fans without tickets to stay away from the venue as well as increased security. The promoter also covered law enforcement costs for the handling of traffic and security at the shows, and posted a $100,000 bond to cover damage to properties neighboring the amphitheater.

Reuniting as The Other Ones, Grateful Dead survivors Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir closed both days of the event--dubbed Terrapin Station, A Grateful Dead Family Reunion--with two sets. The festival also featured performances by the survivors’ respective solo projects.

The Other Ones recently announced a plan to tour the northeastern U.S. later this year, “conditional upon a safe and positive outcome of Alpine Valley,” according to a posting on the official Grateful Dead website.

Those tentative dates are listed in the itinerary below.
