SXSW Review: Toy Soldiers at Bangers

Philadelphia-baed Toy Soldiers jumped straight into roadhouse boogie-rock mode at the Rachael Ray Feedback party at Bangers on Thursday (3/14) and held court for a raucous 30-minute set that traversed a wide range of post-Stones blues rock hats.

If one listened hard (or just let the party's Sangria under mid-day sun do its work), there were flashes of Stax beat-stops, southern-fried rock, east coast bar band attitude and maybe a little Woodstock-era Alvin Lee manic spark.

The band recently nailed their second consecutive Tri-State award for Indie Rock Band of the Year and has tour plans to stalk the eastern seaboard through April.
