Prince confirmed to play SXSW

In the latest round of "Which past Super Bowl Half-time performer will surprise the crowd at SXSW Music this year" rumor-mongering, the smart money was not on Prince. Well, the smart money was wrong.

Prince will indeed grace at least one stage during the festival, in a partnership with Samsung that will enable fans with Galaxy phones to get a shot at the rare show. A lottery for badgeholders to get a chance to attend is also being arranged.

For what it's worth, this year's Smashing Pumpkins and Depeche Mode rumors have come true as well. If a recent SNL musical guest steps up, it may become difficult to discount future SXSW rumors as even remotely improbable.
