Depeche Mode to play SXSW club show

What began as a high-profile interview at South by Southwest to discuss Depeche Mode's return to the studio and stage has blossomed into a rare club booking for the band.

The initial announcement last week that band members Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, and Andy Fletcher would share the stage for an interview to discuss the re-ignition of the band as a recording and touring unit quickly spiraled into rumors that the "interview" was a ruse to hide an actual surprise performance by the band.

Hammered by incessant speculation and looking at a possible crowd control situation (the event is to take place before Yahoo's cameras at the 900-capacity Brazos Hall in downtown Austin), SXSW officials and Yahoo reps came clean on Friday and revealed that yes, it's a show, and it's happening Friday, March 15th at 8pm, CDT.

Since most SXSW events are first-come, first-in with the proper credentials, long lines often form for buzzworthy shows. Sensing problematic lineups for this one, SXSW decided to give it the same treatment given to Bruce Springsteen's performance in 2012: a ticket lottery for badge-holders.

For those who won't make it into the club, Yahoo plans to webcast the show on March 26th, the day their new album is released.
