Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert make CMA history

Real-life sweethearts Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert will continue their reign as the Country Music Association's Male and Female Vocalists of the Year.

Real-life sweethearts Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert will continue their reign as the Country Music Association's Male and Female Vocalists of the Year.

The wedded pair took home four trophies: Shelton won Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year, while Lambert snagged the Female Vocalist of the Year for the third consecutive year. The pair also won Song of the Year for their duet, "Over You."

Lambert and Shelton mark the fourth married couple to be nominated for the Song of the Year category, but they are the first to take home the trophy.

The 46th annual ceremony, which was hosted by Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, took place Thursday (11/1) in Nashville.

Little Big Town took home awards for Vocal Group of the Year and Single of the Year for "Pontoon," while Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw were honored with Musical Event of the Year for their duet, "Feel Like A Rock Star."

The awards show also paid tribute to country icon Willie Nelson with several acts performing his classics, including "You Were Always on My Mind" (Lady Antebellum) and "Whiskey River" (Blake Shelton, Keith Urban). The Red-Headed Stranger took the stage for "On the Road Again," after which he accepted the first-ever CMA Lifetime Achievement Award, which will be renamed the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, according to a press release.
