The nominees for the 40th annual American Music Awards have been revealed, with Nicki Minaj and Rihanna topping the list with four nods each.

Christina Aguilera announced the nominees Tuesday (10/9). The pop superstar and judge on NBC's "The Voice" will perform at the Nov. 18 awards ceremony, which will be broadcast live on ABC stations nationwide. Other performers will be announced in the coming weeks, according to a press release.

Rihanna's nominations include Artist of the Year, Favorite Female Soul/R&B Artist and Favorite Soul/R&B Album, as well as Favorite Female Pop/Rock Artist opposite Minaj, who's competing for Favorite Pop/Rock Album and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album, both for "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded."

Teenage heartthrob Justin Bieber and Drake have earned three nominations, along with Maroon 5, One Direction and Usher, while several are battling in two categories, including Carrie Underwood, Chris Brown, fun., Gotye, J. Cole, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Luke Bryan and Pitbull.

This year's American Music Awards will be the first to have an electronic dance category, which features Skrillex, David Guetta and Calvin Harris vying for the title of Favorite Artist - Electronic Dance Music.

Fans can vote for their favorite artists now via the award show's website.
