Rihanna, Drake hit with most VMA nominations

Rihanna and Drake top the list of nominees at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, while newcomers Gotye, Carly Rae Jepsen and Lana Del Rey receive their first VMA nominations.

Rihanna and Drake top the list of nominees at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, while newcomers Gotye, Carly Rae Jepsen and Lana Del Rey receive their first VMA nominations.

Rihanna and Drake received four nominations for their collaborative hit, "Take Care," including Video of the Year, Best Male Video, Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography, as well as individual nominations. Rihanna's "We Found Love" is also in the running for Video of the Year, while Drake's collaboration with Lil Wayne, "HYFR," is up for Best Hip-Hop Video.

Adele, last year's big winner with four moonmen, received one a nod for Best Cinematography for her chart-topping "Someone Like You."

Several acts are new to the VMAs this year, including pop princess Carly Rae Jepsen, who has been nominated for Best New Artist for her tween anthem "Call Me Maybe." Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" has two nominations: Video of the Year and Best Editing.

Fans can vote for general VMA categories, including Best New Artist and Video of the Year now via the event's website.

The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, which will take place Sept. 6 at Los Angeles' Staples Center, will air live on MTV and feature performances by Alicia Keys and One Direction, among others.
