Guns N' Roses set for first major U.S. gig in four years
Guns N' Roses will play their first major U.S. show since 2006 at the inaugural Rock 'N Rev Festival in Sturgis, SD -- an event that's running in conjunction with that town's famous annual biker rally.
Word of the GN'R booking comes after the event was put into question when the venue originally scheduled to host it, the Glencoe CampResort, claimed that promoters DC3 Global hadn't paid the rental fee, according to The Rapid City Journal.
The new venue is the nearby, newly dubbed Rock 'N Rev Amphitheater, which will be built at an entertainment venue dubbed Monkey Rock USA. Glencoe ticket holders can use their ducats for admission to the new venue, according to a press release.
"There are not a lot of places capable of hosting an event and lineup like this," Monkey Rock Chief Operating Officer Chris Edwards told the Rapid City Journal. "We offered the option to solve a problem and they sent their operations people to survey the area -- all of it happened within 48 hours."
The other acts scheduled to perform during the five-day event include Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Godsmack, Three Days Grace, 3 Doors Down, Hellyeah, Creed and Wolfmother. More information is available at the event's website.
Guns N' Roses will headline the Rock 'N Rev festival's Aug. 13 lineup. GN'R issued their "Chinese Democracy" album in November 2008, after lone original member Axl Rose spent the better part of a decade honing it. The band has toured internationally since the album's release, but its only U.S. performances since then were a series of secret shows this February at New York's Fashion Week.
