Nashville Rising benefit takes in $2.2 million
Nashville Rising, last month's benefit concert organized by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill , took in more than $2.2 million for flood relief in the Middle Tennessee region.
According to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, which will distribute the funds, the money was raised through a combination of ticket sales, donations and sponsorships for the event.
"We cannot thank Faith Hill and Tim McGraw enough for stepping up and marshaling the gifts of all who were both onstage and backstage during this once-in-a lifetime event," Ellen Lehman, president of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, said in a press statement. "We are so very grateful for the gifts of time, talent and treasure which raised much-needed funds to support the work of nonprofit organizations dedicated both to rebuilding lives and restoring our community."
The June 22 event, held at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, featured performances by Hill, McGraw, Amy Grant , Billy Ray Cyrus, Blake Shelton , Carrie Underwood , Jason Aldean , Julie Roberts, LeAnn Rimes, Luke Bryan, Lynyrd Skynyrd , Martina McBride , Michael W. Smith, Miley Cyrus , Miranda Lambert, Montgomery Gentry, Taylor Swift , Toby Keith and ZZ Top.
Record rains fell in the region in early May, causing an estimated $2 billion in flood damage in the city of Nashville alone, according to the Associated Press.
