YouTube to stream Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits Festival
Chicago's 25th annual Lollapalooza, which is sold out, takes over Grant Park Aug. 5-7, while the 10th annual Austin City Limits Festival is slated for Sept. 16-18; only Sunday tickets are available for the latter.
Coldplay and My Morning Jacket are on both festival bills and will be joined by Eminem, Muse and Foo Fighters at Lollapalooza. ACL Fest will also be helmed by Arcade Fire, Stevie Wonder and Kanye West.
Dell and Advanced Micro Devices will sponsor the streaming of the festivals, both of which are promoted by Austin-based C3 Presents.
"This allows us to showcase multiple artists each day, which is really exciting to users," YouTube's music marketing programs manager Dana Vetter explained in a press release. "And we can hope to expect longer viewing times from people who catch one set and trickle into the next one."
YouTube streamed approximately 60 acts at Indio, CA's Coachella Festival, which took place in mid-April. Three stages were broadcast live, each of which had its own channel with multiple high-quality camera angles and few technical glitches, according to CNet. Over the course of the three-day event, the streaming took in nearly 4 million views from all over the world.
