Formed in 1998 by founding members Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme, the band has a moniker that suggests a cross between death metal and The Eagles. Homme has described their sound, tongue firmly in cheek, as "bluegrass slide guitar mixed with stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals."
