But that's not what this group is all about, as it proved during its Wednesday night (3/18) showcase at SXSW.
February 27, 2009 - San Diego, CA's Delta Spirit exudes a loose-limbed and soulful vibe that exemplifies the quintet's origins in sunny California's sunniest southern corner. The group recorded its debut album, 2008's "Ode to Sunshine," in a cabin up in the mountains outside of San Diego, banging on trash cans and radiators to achieve a sound that veers somewhere between pop and gospel. If the band isn't exactly "authentic," they're at least definitely listenable, and frontman Matthew Vasquez's vocals are sweet without faking sincerity, emotional without (most of) the emo.
