Fronted by lefty guitarist Tim Armstrong, Nor-Cal ska/punk veterans Rancid are credited with reviving interest in the genre during the mid-'90s. The lineup still maintains three of the four members who formed the group in 1991. In 1993, they invited a friend by the name of Billie Joe Armstrong, who co-wrote their single "Radio," to join Rancid, but he chose to stick with his group Green Day.

Rock on the Range makes Canadian debut

Billy Talent, Rise Against and Rancid will be among the artists to headline the first Rock on the Range festival in Canada June 27 at Winnipeg's Canad Inns Stadium. Theory of a Deadman, Shinedown, Thornley, Blue October, Silverstein and Minneapolis-based all-girl band Sick of Sarah help round out the bill for ROTR Canada, the first major rock festival in the Manitoba city in more than a decade, according to organizers.
