It's been four years since Alanis Morissette released her last studio album. She is well aware of the gap, but following a number of personal and professional tumults, she needed a break. Pop-rockers Matchbox Twenty opened their Monday (3/17) performance at Phoenix's Cricket Center with their hit "How Far We've Come," and then proceeded to show the crowd just how far that is. Alanis Morissette is expected to release a new album, "Flavors of Entanglement," May 20, four years after her last studio release of original material. When Matchbox Twenty went in the studio to record "a couple" new songs for its greatest hits collection, "Exile on Mainstream," there were thoughts among the band that this may be the act's last project. After all, singer Rob Thomas had his solo career, as did guitarist Kyle Cook and rhythm guitarist Paul Doucette. Matchbox Twenty will greet 2008 with its first North American outing in more than four years. Though she's currently known best for her role as a judge on the Fox-TV hit "American Idol," Virgin/EMI Records will give former pop-singer Paula Abdul's past a nod with a forthcoming best-of set titled "Greatest Hits: Straight Up!" Ricky Martin, who drops a new album titled "Life" on Oct. 11, will launch a world tour Nov. 15 in Mexico City.

There really was no reason for Alanis Morissette to re-record her 1995 blockbuster "Jagged Little Pill" as an acoustic album. But here it is in all its Starbucks-inspired, repackaged glory. Acoustic shows often ooze simplicity, but there was nothing elementary about the performances of Alanis Morissette and Jason Mraz on Saturday (7/16) at Phoenix's Dodge Theatre. Alanis Morissette, who kicked off her "Jagged Little Pill Acoustic Tour" Tuesday night (6/7) in Toronto, has a number of television appearances planned this month, according to a press release.
