SXSW Performer: James Morrison (London, England)

"Soulful" and "expressive" are two words often used to describe Briton James Morrison's style. Atlantic Records producer and co-founder Jerry Wexler, in Morrison's bio, said Morrison has a voice "with its own thumbprint. Hear it once and you'll forever recognize it." (Perhaps that's because, as a baby, Morrison had whooping cough, which may have scarred his vocal chords.) Coming from a poverty-stricken background, Morrison has turned his life around with his freshman release, "Undiscovered." It debuted at No. 1 on the UK charts and sold more than one million copies worldwide. He is set to tackle US shores when his album is sent to stores March 13. --Christina Fuoco-Karasinski
