Former Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh, who left the band after suffering a nervous breakdown in 2001 and later became a painter, was found dead in a Chicago hotel room on Saturday afternoon.
Weezer is the latest band to curate a festival at sea, with The Weezer Cruise setting sail January 19-23 aboard the Carnival Destiny. 
The Free Press Summer Fest took place in Houston on June 4 and 5, two of the hottest days of the year to date in the region. The third installment of the event featured such names as Ween, Weezer, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Cut Copy, Yeasayer, Big Boi, Beirut and Fucked Up, who shared the bill with several local bands.
This year's Bring Our Music Back Festival (B.O.M.B.) has been moved to a bigger venue following strong early ticket sales. The benefit festival, featuring Weezer and Snoop Dogg as headliners, will now be held at The Comcast Theatre in Hartford, CT, according to a press release.
When it comes to productivity, Rivers Cuomo and his band Weezer are setting the bar pretty high of late. In September, they released their eighth studio set, "Hurley"-- with its cover featuring a smiling photo of the actor Jorge Garcia, a.ka. the character Hugo from the TV series "Lost" -- and it promptly peaked at No. 6 on The Billboard 200 album chart. A mere two months later, they dropped "Death to False Metal" and launched their "Memories Tour."
