March 9, 2005 - If Lou Barlow were a tree, what kind of tree would he be? Wait, before you say "weeping willow," consider this: starting out as half the brains behind Dinosaur Jr., and continuing through a lengthy, multi-faceted career that has seen him dart from rock to rock-labeled things like "emo," "lo-fi" and "folk," Barlow has persevered through the highs and lows of the music business to become something of an elder statesman; undeniably influential (how many bands do you know that sound just like Sebadoh?), exceptionally talented, ridiculously prolific and unfortunately perceived as whiny and difficult. That's our Lou. And we don't know what kind of tree he would be either. His new album, "Emoh," is possibly sort of like an oak tree. --Tjames MadisonPerforming Thursday, March 17 at 9 p.m. at The Parish (214B E. 6th St.).
