It comes as something of a shock to look around and realize this band has been putting out full-length LPs since 1995. Still fresh and revelatory every time they hit a stage, the three-woman team of guitarist Carrie Brownstein, bassist Corin Tucker and drummer Janet Weiss make passionate rock music for smart people, infusing a snap-crack dynamic post-punk sound with a convincing social conscience to match the musical heat. Their seventh album, as yet untitled, is due out May 24. --Tjames Madison
