Named after a South African football team, Kaiser Chiefs are known in their native England for quirky pop songs that recall the '90s Manchester movement. Singer Ricky Wilson said the band has a unique songwriting approach, with drummer/vocalist Nick Hodgson taking the lead on penning the tunes. The writing of its debut album was an arduous process: the band wrote an armful of tunes, but scrapped them before coming up with what is now its new album, "Employment." --Christina Fuoco
