The Bad Plus takes 'Care' to the road

Progressive-jazz trio The Bad Plus will take to the road for a US tour that rounds out 2009 and runs into the New Year as the group continues supporting last year's "For All I Care."

New math or marketing ploy, this is actually 'The Bad Plus +1,' with the addition of vocalist Wendy Lewis, a longtime friend of the trio and a fixture in the Minneapolis alt-rock scene. 'For All I Care' was partially inspired by the 1963 pairing of John Coltrane's quintet with vocalist Johnny Hartmann; as Plus drummer Dave King explains, 'Coltrane's quartet had already developed a group language, and then they enlisted this incredible singer without changing the language of the band.'
