Newcomer Ida Maria mixes smiles and passion

"Tonight I feel like we're on the same side," Norwegian pop-punk songstress Ida Maria remarked to onlookers at her recent show at New York City's Hiro Ballroom. Between fits of spine-tingling, rowdy wails and fierce head turning, the feisty 24-year-old strummed her electric guitar--making it clear she's no dainty damsel. Wearing a come-as-you-are ensemble of a glittery '80s top, jeans and pink-flower hair clip, Maria looked like the spunky tough kid on the playground who'd have no quips about telling you off or giving you a shiner.
