October 26, 2008 - As the final day of CMJ came to a close, rather than ending with a bang, it felt more like a sigh of relief, or fizzle. That is, at least, considering the number of attendees who decided to brave the heavy rains and wind gusts that consumed Manhattan on Saturday evening (10/25). While reportedly a total of some 11,000 took part in the week's festivities, tonight's crowds seemed to have diminished considerably.
October 25, 2008 - One of the best things about CMJ is the variety of bands that can be experienced in a single night, and often at a single venue. In just a few hours, one can easily indulge in folk, punk, hip-hop, pop, metal and indie rock.
October 24, 2008 - After only a few days at CMJ, it becomes clear that a seemingly permanent ink-stamp collage has formed on everyone's hands--and face, depending on how the night went. Tonight was a prime opportunity to see some well-known acts for badge-holders and ticket-bearing fans without having to mission from venue to venue.
October 23, 2008 - Everything about CMJ can feel like a competition. Bands and artists compete for audiences all day. Badge-holders compete to see the most desirable shows, since there is never a guaranteed admittance into events. Something as simple as planning a schedule for attending showcases can feel like a struggle. Simply put, nothing about CMJ is especially easy or stress-free. However, it is for that reason that experiencing the showcases can be so rewarding and special.
October 22, 2008 - It was all too perfect that singer/songwriter Sarah White was crooning and be-bopping about big dreams in the big city at CMJ's first media meet-and-greet event Tuesday night (10/21).
