February 27, 2009 - King Khan is a garage-rock bandleader of the old school variety, part Sam the Sham and part Sky Saxon and maybe a third part Chuck Norris, just for extra-added ass-kicking measure. With his band, The Shrines, the Canadian citizen and crew prowls the world's nightclubs, looking for new territory to claim in the name of the King. The band's most recent studio set, 2007's "What Is?!," gets a re-release on Hazelwood Records in April. According to the label, the set channels the spirit of both Sun Ra and The Stooges, which would be really kind of bizarre, come to think of it.
