Satellite Party sends message to America

Alt-rock pioneer Perry Farrell's latest project, Satellite Party, is supporting its debut album with a major North American tour that will visit more than 40 clubs, theaters and radio shows.

Album Review: Perry Farrell's Satellite Party, "Ultra Payloaded" (Columbia)

Forgive Perry Farrell if his post-Jane's Addiction outfit Porno For Pyros fell a tad flat. In hindsight, maybe he worried a bit too much about what Jane may have said, delivering a debut that played a little too close to his seminal band's chest-pumping vest, and not providing enough of the color and flair that made the band such a seminal bridge between alt-rock fashion and hard-rock furor. There's no shortage of that color and flair in Farrell's new Satellite Party; he-man bravado, on the other hand, is nowhere to be found. And that's definitely for the best. Live Review: Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, CA

"Now go be mischievous and defiant!" decreed Satellite Party frontman Perry Farrell following his outfit's opening-day, late-afternoon set Friday (4/27) at the much-hyped and heavily anticipated Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, CA. The new band featuring the leader of rock icons Jane's Addiction may have been one of the first acts to take the stage for the three-day festival (4/27-29), but it was also one of the best of the more than 150 performers, headlined by Bjork, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rage Against the Machine.

SXSW Review: Satellite Party at Stubb's

Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros may be things of the past, but the man at the center of both--one Mr. Perry Farrell--remains the same quirky, ebullient, theatrical, musical soul, as evidenced by his Friday (3/16) performance in Austin.
