James Murphy and his band LCD Soundsystem say they were caught off guard by the demand for tickets to the band's farewell performance at New York's Madison Square Garden. In response, they've hatched a plan they hope will give more fans a chance to see them play while deflating the bottom line of scalpers who snapped up tickets for the sold-out April 2 show.
It turns out that LCD Soundsystem mastermind James Murphy was serious when he said that his band's latest album, last year's "This is Happening," would be its last studio set.
San Francisco's Fourth Annual Treasure Island Music Festival took place over the weekend (10/16-17), and gave fans a clear choice between Day One's electronica and hip-hop-style music and Day Two's rock and indie-leaning artists.
Monsters of Folk delivered a strong set at ACL yesterday (10/9) despite less than ideal placement. As a result of the fact that their performance space at the Austin Ventures stage sat directly between the two main stages, AMD and Budweiser, the musicians had to contend with an impromptu battle of the bands in order to be heard over Gogol Bordello and LCD Soundsystem.
LCD Soundsystem has plotted an international course this fall in support of the dance-punk outfit's recently released third and reportedly final album, "This Is Happening." 
The Virgin Mobile FreeFest, a free music festival scheduled to take place Sept. 25 at the Washington, DC-area's Merriweather Post Pavilion, will sport a lineup that includes M.I.A., LCD Soundsystem, Pavement, T.I. and Ludacris.
