San Francisco's Outside Lands Music & Art Festival 2011 wrapped things up Sunday night (8/14) with an epic performance by headliners Arcade Fire. Their set was summed up in a review by SoundSpike's Rob Evans as having '...an almost spiritual feel, with the crowd joining in unison on the chants that form the hooks of so many of the group's songs. The combination was perfect prescription for sending the crowd home on a high.' Interview: Josh Ritter

SoundSpike spoke to Josh recently about his new album The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter, his current tour, the joys of reading and the importance of not taking things too seriously.

Album Review: Josh Ritter, "The Historical Conquests of Josh Ritter" (Sony)

Josh Ritter, over the course of five albums and near constant touring, has set himself up as one of the chief, serious, singer/songwriters of his generation. A true American musical export in the vein of Townes Van Zandt, John Prine and-- on a smaller scale--Bob Dylan, Ritter's lyrics and delivery have only improved with each release.
