October 21, 2010 - The Austin, TX-based The Black Angels will embark on a six-week co-headlining tour of North America with Canadian outfit Black Mountain.
September 13, 2010 - Sept. 14 is Super Tuesday for the music industry, the day prior to the fourth quarter that overflows with high-profile releases. So many, in fact, it's possible next week's Nielsen Soundscan Top 10 will have six or seven rookie titles.
August 22, 2008 - The outdoor festival returned to its roots Friday night (8/22), with San Francisco's Outside Lands Fest bringing rock music back to Golden Gate Park after more than 40 years of absence.
March 9, 2008 - The members of Vancouver's Black Mountain are graduate students at the School of Classic Rock. The band's self-titled 2005 debut displays an easy-to-spot palette of influences, ranging from Black Sabbath to Blue Cheer, but what makes frontman Stephen McBean and company special is the way the band--replete with howling, distantly spooky vocals and a thick, rather gnomish sense of mournful darkness--creates something wholly new and unexpected out of what is essentially a thoroughly played out genre. The group recently dropped its follow-up full-length, "In the Future."
August 11, 2005 - Black Mountain seems out of place with everything else going on in 2005. The band's excellent, self-titled debut sounds nothing like such new wave New Wavers as Franz Ferdinand, Hot Hot Heat, The Bravery or, really, just about any other new act these days.
