March 9, 2005 - Earlimart, the place, is a small aggie town somewhere in California's Central Valley between the nowhere of Bakersfield and the somewhat larger nowhere of Fresno. It exists mainly to supply and house farmers and farm equipment, and as far as anyone can tell, nothing remarkable has really ever happened in Earlimart. Earlimart, the band, is mostly some guys who escaped from the Valley and made their way to the greater somewhere of Los Angeles. They sound, then, nothing like you would expect them to. With dense, lush soundscapes, swooning vocal takes, haunting piano refrains, Earlimart seems like nothing so much as a less difficult, more American version of Radiohead. Somebody should probably keep an eye on the Central Valley from now on. Their new album, "Treble and Tremble," is available now. --Tjames MadisonPerforming Thursday, March 17 at 11 p.m. at Buffalo Billiards (201 E. 6th St.)
