Don't let their air of Frenchness deceive you; Brooklyn's Les Savy Fav ("Lay Sah-vee Fahv") are just a bunch of East Coast guys who make loud noise with musical instruments. Although the band is sometimes lumped in sonically with the emo or "math rock" crowd, one look at hirsute, balding frontman Tim Harrington gives the lie to that image. Harrington's lyrics make allusions to "Stockholm syndrome, the architects of Carthage, and even palimpsests," according to the band's Wikipedia entry. The group's most recent studio set is 2001's "Go Forth." --Tjames Madison

Performing Wednesday, March 14 at Red Eyed Fly (715 Red River St.).
