May 13, 2011 - For someone in a charge of a bunch of purported roots-rockers, Will Sheff is actually a pretty forward-looking guy. He puts his pants on one leg at a time and he thinks about sex, same as everybody else.
December 11, 2008 - As a prelude to his headlining show tonight (12/11) in Williamsburg, Will Sheff--lead singer of the Austin based band Okkervil River--treated fans to a solo in-store gig at the cozy East Village record store Other Music on Wednesday night (12/10). The rain was an almost welcome prologue to the evening; a line of umbrellas curved around the block while Sheff finished a last-minute sound check. The tiny room felt miniature as ever--shelves pushed flush against the wall to accommodate the crowd and video equipment. White Christmas lights draped over CD racks served as a perfectly minimalist backdrop.
June 2, 2008 - Indie folk-rockers Okkervil River have lined up a fall tour behind the September release of the band's fifth studio album, "The Stand Ins."
February 4, 2008 - Indie-rockers The New Pornographers and Okkervil River have plans for a short co-headlining tour in April, with both acts continuing to support recent albums.
August 31, 2007 - Okkervil River's breakout album, 2005s "Black Sheep Boy," was a heartbreaker in the most epic and melodramatic sense of the word. Two years (and one EP) later, "Stage Names" finds leader Will Sheff and company opening things up conceptually, focusing more on the exterior of humanity than on the insular-drivan themes of "Black Sheep Boy."
