March 9, 2005 - Years ago the Bay City Rollers and Rod Stewart drove an entire generation of potential Scottish rockers underground, afraid to show their faces for fear of potential retaliation-by-assumed-company. Now Edinburgh's Idlewild have arrived to dispense with old preconceptions. Musically comprising a balance somewhere between countrymen Aztec Camera and early Soul Asylum, Idlewild deliver the requisite modern goods: smooth, melodic hooks and yearning, ambiguous lyrics, with a hard, pop sheen firmly rooted in the here and now. Their fourth album, "Warning/Promises," is due March 7. --Tjames Madison Performing Saturday, March 19 at midnight at La Zona Rosa (612 W. 4th St.).
