May 25, 2001 - Handy Weekend, an annual series of blues-related events and celebrations in Memphis, Tenn., opened on Thursday (5/24) with the presentation of the 22nd annual W.C. Handy Blues Awards, hosted by New Orleans pianist Dr. John. Shemekia Copeland and B.B. King led the pack by taking home two awards apiece.
January 16, 2001 - Snaring a total of five nominations, Rod Piazza and members of his band the Mighty Flyers combined to lead the field for the 22nd Annual W.C. Handy Blues Awards. The awards, named for the “Father of the Blues,” are presented by the Blues Foundation.
